The Neil Gilmour trophy is an award that is presented each year to the junior who has made a significant contribution to the junior club at Enniskillen over the past year. The trophy takes its name from a man who graced both the Enniskillen and Omagh tennis clubs...for more.
The year started with Oliver Guette being awarded the Neil Gilmour trophy. Oliver also happens to be probably the most improved junior over the past year and we wish him well in recovering from a recent football injury. A record 5 juniors represented Ulster by qualifying for the interprovincials in Carrickmines, Eimear Smyth, Laura Griffin, Ronan McKeever, Eve Callaghan and Ciara Griffin. There are three girls currently top 5 in Ulster, Sarah Cousins 5 at U18 having put in some fine performances during the year, Eimear 2 at U16 and Eve 4 at U12. Eimear reached the semi-finals of the nationals and helped Ulster gain runner-up spot in the interpros in Galway....for more.
The junior Round Robin singles event was finally completed last week after a series of matches were played over a period of 7 weeks. This event and a recent junior fun event was kindly sponsored by local businesses, The Golden Arrow, Radiant Dentistry, O’Doherty Butchers, Crabtree Cottage, Fermanagh Cottage Industries, Carefree Travel, Leslie’s Coffee Shop, Turning Point and Dog Star Communications. More than 20 juniors took part in the round robin and for many it is their first....for more.
A junior tournament for Enniskillen Tennis Club members took place last weekend which once again was sponsored so generously by Dunnes Stores. This is often the first tournament that many of our younger juniors take part in and any initial disappointments were quickly masked by the offerings from the barbecue which burnt brightly on the Saturday and Sunday....for more.
At a recent event organised by Enniskillen Tennis Club and sponsored by Lakeland Veterinary Services (Derrygonnelly), 16 children from all across Ireland took part in a very successful Tennis 10’s event. In the U8’s Blake Chambers from Ballybofey won all his matches. His brother Corey along with Aine Rice, Garazi Biritxinaga and Cormac King from Enniskillen played some wonderful tennis including many lengthy rallies...for more.
The Junior Round Robin took place over the last six weeks at Enniskillen Tennis Club. The event was sponsored by James and Sharon Morrison (Rebecca’s Coffee Shop, The Buttermarket) and proved to be extremely popular with all the participants. Almost all the matches within each of the four groups were completed on time and this competition served to provide our juniors with valuable matchplay practice to complement their recent spell of coaching...for more.
The annual Junior West of Ulster Tennis Championships took place at Enniskillen last weekend. Thanks to the generous sponsorship by Innes Redmond (Lakeland Veterinary Services, Derrygonnelly),it attracted one of the largest entries in years with participants from clubs in Cork, Ballymena, Belfast, Donegal, Dundalk, City of Derry, Sligo and Claremorris as well as from clubs in Fermanagh and Tyrone...for more.
The annual West of Ulster Junior Tennis Open gets under way at Enniskillen Tennis Club from Thursday 30th June – Sunday 3rd July. For the third successive year, Innes Redmond of Lakeland Veterinary Services based in Derrygonnelly has stepped in as the main sponsor. This prestigious junior tournament forms part of the Ulster Tennis Points Tour which allows competitors to gain points which will enhance their Ulster ranking...for more.
