Franco's Autumn League reached a climax last Wednesday at Enniskillen Tennis Club with the finals taking place after ten weeks of competition. Monday night finally saw the weather dry up long enough to get both semi-finals played.........for more.
Wednesday night saw very wet conditions setting in from the very start. Some players (who will remain nameless) seemed to be deliberately aiming for the many pools of water which had started to collect on the court surface........for more.
Last Wednesday night saw the welcome return of Davy Thompson from injury. Having confounded the medical profession with such a speedy return to fitness, he also confounded those who may have fancied their chances of getting him 'cold'.......for more.
Unfortunately the weather came off best this week with neither of the Monday night matches getting played. However in contrast, Wednesday night's matches were played on a lovely mild and dry evening. Things were looking up for the Baked Oysters from the start.......for more.
In spite of the recent horrendous weather, somewhat surprisingly play continued almost as planned with only one series of matches lost to the weather. The Black Soles although leading the Monday night group cannot yet be described as running away.......for more.
Wednesday night however, was a different matter with very settled mild weather and the tennis was very enjoyable. The early session saw Ruth Armstrong’s ‘Crab Claw’s’ take on Bennie Sheridan’s ‘Baked Oysters’.......for more.
Several new members are taking part in the competition for the first time. Amongst those who are braving the winter elements are Ollie McShea, James Morrison, Jenny Kelly, Matt Dillon, Martin Dillon and Seamus McGuinness......for more.
The Autumn and Spring Leagues were but two of the competitions at the Enniskillen Tennis Club that the late Seamus Carron regularly featured in. Well known as a man who revelled in competition, Seamus would display a ready smile and good humour both on and off the court.....for more.
Last week saw a record entry of 131 players from all over Ulster compete for honours in the 2011 West Ulster Tennis Championships at Enniskillen. While last years heat wave failed to make a return appearance the generous sponsorship of Toyota Western Cars meant that all 16 winners......for more.
After seeing off both qualifiers from the Wednesday night pool in the semis it was a tense atmosphere which greeted the Staplers and Erasers at the start of the final.......for more.
Having last week beaten group leaders the Staplers, the Erasers this week made a huge effort to seize the top qualifying spot, winning their final tie against the Punchers......for more.
With only one week now left to play in the Erne Business Equipment Spring Tennis League at Enniskillen, semi final qualification from the Monday night pool looks assured for the Staplers and the Erasers......for more.
In control from the very start the Staplers brought the Punchers recent run of victories crashing to the canvas with a 57-39 victory. Even without Dominic Burns at number one the Staplers had too much strength......for more.
