Weather conditions favour the Ducks

Wednesday night saw very wet conditions setting in from the very start. Some players (who will remain nameless) seemed to be deliberately aiming for the many pools of water which had started to collect on the court surface. Dominic Burns and Bernie Hall (Baked Oysters) proved too strong for Martin Sharkey and Berni Cornyn (Peking Ducks) in a highly entertaining match winning 8-4. However Berni got her revenge in the ladies doubles when partnering Michelle Kennedy, they took 9 games off Bernie Hall and Heather Boles. The guile of Allen Reynolds and the stamina of Martin Dillon once again combined with devastating effect in overcoming Keith Miller and Seamus McGuinness. Hugh Maguire rounded off a great double on the night when combining with Martin Sharkey to win at number one mens against Dominic Burns and James Wilson. Needless to say the wet conditions suited the Ducks better than the Baked Oysters and they won 57-39.

Wednesday's mixed doubles matches between the Crab Claws and the Thai Monks were particularly close, with three draws in the first four matches. Josie Gillen and Brenda Davis (Crabs) enjoyed an excellent win over Andrea Crawford and Moira McAdam. Niall McGandy and Johnny Guette beat the experienced duo of Brian Donaldson and Iain Kennedy and were instrumental in obtaining an overall narrow win for the Crabs 49 -47.

Monday night's matches saw the Black Soles taking on the Chilli Squids. Highest contributor for the Soles was Matthew McGann who together with Liz Murphy showed a clean pair of heels to rivals Dominic Burns and Leonie Madigan. Richard Greenaway and Claude Bersot did particularly well to gain a hard fought draw over Brendan Duffy and Seamus O'Connell. In the end the Soles ran out the winners by 54-42.

Donal Burns and Heather Guy were on fire for the Buffalo Wings against Paul Lendrum and Louise McGann (Pig 'n Chickens) and took the match 7-5. The athletic Sandra Parker and Liz McGuinness overcame Lisa Greaves and Yvonne Masterson in a tight match 7-5. All but one match was taken by the Pig 'n Chickens who ran out convincing winners on the night.
