Sadness was expressed at last week’s committee meeting at Enniskillen Tennis Club at the recent passing of one of the club’s stalwarts, Wilf Greene. Wilf had been a familiar face at the club for the past five decades holding all key positions on the committee at some stage from 1975 when he was first elected Club Secretary. For some years he also acted in the role of Treasurer and his past contribution to the club and overall popularity led to Wilf being voted in as Club President in 1998 succeeding the late Mervyn Winslow. As president, Wilf presided over the opening of the new clubhouse in 2000 a landmark year for the club. However, it was Wilf’s warmth, generosity of spirit and good humour that characterised everything that he did. As clubnight co-ordinator he was fondly remembered as the friendly and welcoming face that many current members first met when they took up the game many years ago. Until very recently, Wilf had been an active player himself and was part of a regular group who convened for weekly matches followed by a chat over morning coffee. The thoughts and prayers of Wilf’s many friends at the club are with Pam, their daughters Jill and Carolyn and grandchildren Alex and Theo.
