The prestigious Neil Gilmour memorial trophy was awarded to Alison Glass at Enniskillen Tennis Club last weekend. This trophy recognises not just sporting achievement but places a heavy emphasis on the qualities of sportsmanship shown by juniors both on and off the court. Any recipient of the Neil Gilmour trophy will have displayed the qualities characteristic of the man himself who was so active in county tennis for many years before his untimely passing in 2006.
At 17, Alison has accomplished a great deal in junior competitions through the last seven years. But her contribution to junior tennis was summarised in glowing terms by coaching director Matthew McGann. Although tenacious and determined in competition, Alison is always fair and good humoured. The qualities she brings to junior tennis at Enniskillen are recognised by her many friends and peers at the club who greeted her award with genuine warmth. Alison has also been assisting coach Louise McGann in the development of our younger juniors on Wednesday afternoons and when the time comes for Alison to leave the junior ranks, there is no doubt she will be sorely missed.
