A total of 15 local players took part in the Dunnes Stores sponsored Under tens event at Enniskillen Tennis Club last Saturday. Nine children took part in the Under 8s. The quality of play from this young age group was admirable- good serves, long rallies using the angles and strong volleys. So many of the matches were close with only a couple of points separating the participants at the end.
The Under 9s highlighted the progress many of our children are making. Their competitive spirit was alive and well as they fought for every point. Two new players Jack Rice and Josh Allen made their tournament debut and made quite a splash. Jack took the top spot and Josh finished third reflecting their rapid progress and enthusiasm for the game. Brothers Nathan and Emmett Coyle played superbly taking second in the Under 9s and first in the Under 8s respectively.
Coach Louise McGann was delighted with the overall performances from the children without exception and irrespective whether they won or not. Each child took home a medal reflecting the great progress they have made in a short space of time and it is obvious that their training sessions are starting to pay off. Tribute was also paid to Dunnes Stores for continuing to sponsor this competition which forms the first part of the Dunnes Stores Junior Tournament, the events for our older juniors will take place next weekend.
