ENNISKILLEN JUNIOR TENNIS PLAYERS TAKE TOP SPOT

The weekend 7th/8th March was a very successful one for Enniskillen Lawn Tennis Club as tennis players from all over Northern Ireland battled it out to secure ranking points in each of their age groups. It all started two weeks ago when juniors from tennis clubs in the west played off to determine the top two in each age group to go forward for the provincial match plays. Out of 16 qualifying spaces Enniskillen junior tennis players took an unprecedented 13 of those places. The success continued into the provincial match plays where Enniskillen Juniors took two first places, a second place, and a third place with others enjoying personal bests.

Adam Donaldson finished first in the under 18’s showing his devastating power not losing a set and hardly even losing a game! Adam won the final 6/1 6/1. Glen Mowatt notched up a personal best by finishing third narrowly missing out on a final against his club mate. Glen showed how much he has improved of late by going to a third set champions tie-break in his semi final.

Sarah Cousins once again proved to be the best under 10 girl in Northern Ireland by winning all her matches with some ease at the under 10 event hosted this year by Enniskillen Tennis Club. She now goes on to the National match plays in Galway at the end of this month.

Susannah Hughes Jordan finished second in the under 16 girls. She won all her matches to take her to the final against Belfast’s Elizabeth Murphy. Susannah showed that she was fully fit again as she went to a third set champions tie break in the final. She also qualifies for the national match plays.

Others who played were Robert Connor playing some of his best tennis in the under 14 boys. Robert threw a spanner in the works by beating a highly ranked player in one of his matches and finished in sixth place, a personal best. Alexandrea Carroll, James Carroll, Emily Donaldson and Claire Mc Manus were representing the west in these match plays also. Jarred Monaghan was also in action this weekend having been selected to play for Ulster in a friendly against Leinster held in Dublin. He gained valuable match practise as he played great tennis against some of the best in the country. Next weekend is the turn of the under twelve’s and the under sixteen boys. We will keep an eye on how Jarred does in his under twelve match plays along with all the other representatives next weekend.

The Enniskillen Club is delighted to see so many juniors performing at such a high level, such success is unprecedented and the committee wishes all these players the very best as they go on to the national match plays.
