The presentation of the Neil Gilmour Memorial Trophy took place last Friday night at Enniskillen Tennis Club. This trophy is presented each year to the junior who best demonstrates those important sporting qualities of fair play and commitment and who also participates in the full range of club activities – qualities that Neil himself would have displayed over a long number of years at Enniskillen and Omagh Tennis Clubs. The recipient of the trophy for 2009 was Emily Donaldson, and it proved to be a popular choice. Club coach, Matthew McGann stated that Emily has proved herself an excellent role model for all juniors and she has only achieved high standards within the sport through hard work and determination, but she also makes time for the younger juniors. The trophy was fittingly presented by Neil’s wife Helen who was clearly delighted to see the large number of juniors currently partaking in the Friday club-nights.
The recent bad weather certainly does not appear to dampen the enthusiasm of our junior players – with over 60 regularly taking part on the weekly club-nights. As usual the fun games and coaching were provided by club coaches Matthew and Louise McGann who were ably assisted by Eilis Bogue and Scott Gilbride. Because this was the last club-night before Christmas, a party was held for all juniors in the club-house. Simon says that the party games couldn’t have passed off as successfully without the services of Eilis and John Slowey! Pizzas were the order of the day and thanks to Evelyn Cousins, Mary Griffin and Helen Cooper for all their hard work throughout the evening.
