Website of the Enniskillen Lawn Tennis Club - 127 Years of Tennis
2008 has been another successful year for Enniskillen Lawn Tennis Club. The extent of that success can be seen in club membership, competitions, leagues, juniors, development, club night and social events.
We have a fabulous facility and as custodians of ELTC we can take pride in the way we have managed the Club over the past year. Under the direction of John Griffen club night continues to be our main source of new adult members while The Junior Committee invests heavily in the development of our youth.
We must help the Junior Committee in seeking new ways to develop our young players and support them with young players representing the club at provincial and national level. We are privileged to have Matthew Mc Gann as our Director of Tennis. He too plays a major role in bringing new members to our Club and in providing support and direction to the committee.
In 2008 we successfully introduced the court access system which has increased the value of club membership, whilst providing security and protection to our assets. This has come at a cost however as will be seen from Sonja’s report but we believe that in order to secure the future of our club we must invest in its development. Next year we hope to add an automated booking system.
Sponsorship in 2008 was provided by a wide range of local businesses. I would like to give special mention to Belleek, Donnelly Brothers and Balcas who sponsored our major events.
Club competitions and tournaments have been very well supported by members and visiting clubs. Their success is testimony to the level of devotion, organisational skills and commitment exercised by the Club Executive. We also continue to feature heavily in the honours lists at Western League events.
A wise man once told me that if we succeed in managing the social aspects of ELTC we will achieved a great deal. We could not be accused of shirking that particular responsibility and I believe that the small investment we have made in this regard will continue to ensure we remain in touch with our membership and encourage new members to integrate.
Finally on a personal note I would like to thank the members of the outgoing committee for their support during the past twelve months. In particular I wish to thank Joanne who has been a fantastic secretary in her first year on committee. Sonja who has continued to lead by example as treasurer and tournament director. Linda and Jenny you are so thorough in their capacity as social co-ordinators. Clive through his support role in many areas including match reports and catering; Innes who lends a hand at every opportunity and was a major help during the tournaments. Dominick who just makes this place tick and of course Brian who directs the youth operation. There are many others who are not on committee but lend their support most notably the aforementioned John Griffen who runs our Club Nights and tournaments and is a major support to the chairman. I hope you have all enjoyed the year as much as I have.
