The first match on Monday night saw The Food Fighters take a 56-40 win over the Seabass Supremes. The mixed doubles were mostly close affairs with 3 of the 4 matches ending 6-6, however Andy Elliot and Kate McManus made the difference for the Food Fighters with an 8-4 win. The doubles saw the Food FIghters extend their 4 point lead to a final 16 point win. The combination of Matt Dillon and Andy Elliot won their match 8-4 and with Jenny Kelly and Kate McManus storming to a 10-2 victory, the win was sealed for the Food Fighters. The next Monday match saw the Creme Brulees defeat the Early Birds by 54 – 42. The scores after the mixed doubles were fairly even, two of the games were 6-6 with Paul Lendrum and Brenda Davis taking a 9-3 win for the Early Birds and Nick Meeke and Kathleen Murphy securing a 10-2 win for the Creme Brulees. In the doubles, the Creme Brulees went on a winning spree with their partnerships winning 3 out of the 4 games – the last one being a draw. Alison Glass and Josie Boyle won their match 9-3 for the Creme Brulees and this went a long way to securing a 12 point victory.
Wednesday night’s first match between the Fancos Specials and the Mighty Ducks saw a 10 point win for the latter. Again only 2 points separated the teams after the mixed doubles with the key games being an 8-4 win for the Specials partnership of Cormac Jordan and Josie Gillen and the same for The Mighty Ducks partnership of Tony Ringland and Sheila Colville. The doubles saw The Mighty Ducks win 3 out of the 4 matches; the partnership of Tony Ringland and Garth Armstrong produced a 9-3 for the Ducks. In the second match on Wednesday, the Prawn Kings recorded a 52-44 victory over the Chilli Squids. After the mixed doubles, the Kings were 16 points ahead but 2 good wins out of 4 in the doubles for the Squids saw the final winning margin pulled back to 8 points. Dominic Burns and Hugh Maguire produced an amazing display to win 11-1 and Hazel Dineen and Gwen Wilson were on top form as they won their match 8-4 for the Chilli Squids.
With only one more week to play in the league, it’s all systems go as the teams battle on for a place in the semi-finals.
