An event for the under tens was held at Enniskillen Tennis Club last weekend and was generously sponsored by T Dickey & Co. It was split into two round robin events with three teams taking part and was well supported by the club’s youngest juniors. Caoilte Hamill produced high quality performances in all three of his matches and remained unbeaten in his section. Tori Beresford is a recent recruit to tennis having started playing this year at the popular summer camps and now is a regular participant at the Friday junior club nights. The improvement in Tori’s game is there for all to see. Hannah Davis enjoyed an excellent win over Ciara Griffin in a very tight match. Anna Guette won all her matches except for a 6/7 defeat by Ciara in a tiebreak which saw both girls trading many hard hitting baseline rallies. Michael McDonald enjoyed a good win over Tori 6/4 and really appeared to enjoy the experience of matchplay.
The section with the youngest juniors saw Rory Smyth winning all three of his matches. His tightest match was against sister Bronagh with Rory just winning through in the third and deciding set. Caitlin O’Hare just got the better of Aoibheann King in two marathon sets eventually taking them both 8/6. Kayla Noble enjoyed two good wins over Aoibheann and Caitlin earlier in the competition. Conall McCaffrey was another to catch the eye and played particularly well.
The blue team consisting of Ciara Griffin, Kayla Noble, Conall McCaffrey and Caoilte Hamill scored the highest number of points and were declared the winners. Tributes were paid to the sponsors T Dickie & Co who provided support for the trophies which were presented to each participant. Special thanks were given to the organiser Louise McGann, on running a very successful competition and for her significant contribution to Friday club nights which introduces so many juniors to the world of tennis. New juniors are always welcome on Friday nights (rackets are provided) and further details may be obtained by contacting the Enniskillen Club at 02866 328960.
