Round 9 Review
First up on Monday were the early Birds against the Seabass Supremes, the Supremes won this encounter with a score of 52-44. all was reasonably even in the mixed doubles with Early Birds winning two out of the four matches and the third one a draw, it was Ken Yang and Yvonne Masterson that made the difference here with a fabulous 11-1 victory for the supremes. The ladies and mens doubles were all very even with both teams winning two matches each, however the supremes duo of Reggie Ferguson and Ken Yang won their match 8-4 which contributed to the overall win by a margin of 8 points for the Seabass Supremes.
Next up was the Creme Brulees against the Food Fighters, the latter winning 53-43. There was two wins for each team in the mixed doubles with 3 of the matches ending in a score of 7-5, however, it was the duo o Andy Elliott and Kate McManus that made the difference for the Fighters with a 9-3 win. In the mens doubles, Andy Elliott was again involved in a winning score of 9-3 this time with Matt Dillon as his partner. With the points shared equally by the two teams in the other three matches, it was the two 9-3 wins that helped secure the 10 point win for the Food Fighters.
On Wednesday the first match was between the Prawn Kings and The Might Ducks. The Kings won by an amazing 18 point margin the end result being 57-39. In the mixed doubles Innes Redmond and Geraldine Millar started off the winning ways with a 9-3 victory for the Kings, 2 of the remaining matches were won by the Ducks with the last match being a draw leaving the Kings ahead by just 2 points. It was a different story in the doubles with the Kings winning 3 of the 4 matches with the final one being a draw. Innes Redmond and Brendan Duffy really made the difference for the Kings with a huge 11-1 win. Niall McGandy and Capt Johnny Guette made their own contribution with an 8-4 victory.
The second match between the Chilli Squids and Francos Specials ended in a 52-44 win for the Squids. The partnerships of Cyril Boyd/Hazel Dineen and James Morrison/ Gwen Wilson both produced wins of 8-4 helping their team to a 10 point margin at the halfway stage. The Specials fought back and with an 8-4 win Davy Thompson and Cormac Jordan, and a 10-2 win for ann White and Carol McCusker it looked like a reversal was on the cards; however with Cyril Boyd and james Morrison also producing a 10-2 win for the Squids, it left them the winners by 8 points.
